Велику увагу закцентовано на природі й функціях поняття «ярмарок» в літературознавстві, вичерпно аргументовано доцільність дослідження саме цього принципу. Реалізовано спробу виявити й дослідити принцип «життя як ярмарок і ярма- рок як життя» у творах В. Текерея та І. Франка в ракурсі сучасного компаративного літера- турознавства; комплексно проаналізовано функціонування цього принципу на поетологічному та семіотичному рівнях; здійснено порівняльно-типологічне зіставлення творчого доробку письменників, а також уточнено роль і значення комплексного художнього-семіотичного аналізу літературного твору. Обраний за основу дослідження художньо-семіотичний компа- ративний аналіз долає усталену суперечність між поняттями «аналіз тексту» та «інтер- претація твору». Це означає, що результатом аналізу і художнього тексту, й інтерпретації літературного твору є побудова їхніх моделей. На основі аналізу науково-практичного доробку представників структуралістського під- ходу (Р. Барта, Ю. Лотмана, У. Еко, Юлії Крістевої та інших) визначається роль семіотич- ного аналізу літературного твору. Беручи до уваги суспільно-історичні умови періоду, в якому було створено об’єкти дисертації (а саме: друга половина ХІХ – початок ХХ століття): період різноманітних революційних рухів, наукових відкриттів, актуальність буржуазних і національних перетворень, формування нових імперій, активний розвиток торговельних від- носин, у світовій літературі з’являється новий тип героя – людина, яка прагне всіма засобами домогтися життєвого добробуту, мати фінансову незалежність, авторитет у суспільстві, реалізацію задуманих цілей. Саме тому логічним у роботі бачиться дослідження саме прин- ципу «життя як ярмарок і ярмарок як життя», де все продається й купується. The research is an attempt to comprehensively analyze the principle of "life as a fair and fair as life" in fiction. A lot of attention is focused on the nature and functions of the concept of "fair" in literary studies, the expediency of researching this very principle is exhaustively argued. An attempt was made to identify and investigate the principle of "life as a fair and the fair as life" in the works of V. Thackeray and I. Frank from the perspective of modern comparative literary studies; the functioning of this principle at the poetic and semiotic levels is comprehensively analyzed; a comparative-typological comparison of the creative output of writers was carried out, and the role and significance of a complex artistic-semiotic analysis of a literary work was clarified. The artistic-semiotic comparative analysis chosen as the basis of the research overcomes the established contradiction between the concepts of "text analysis" and "interpretation of the work". This means that the result of the analysis of both the artistic text and the interpretation of the literary work is the construction of their models. Based on the analysis of the scientific and practical work of representatives of the structuralist approach (R. Barth, Yu. Lotman, U. Eko, Yulia Kristeva and others), the role of semiotic analysis of a literary work is determined. Taking into account the socio-historical conditions of the period in which the objects of the dissertation were created (namely: the second half of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century): the period of various revolutionary movements, scientific discoveries, the relevance of bourgeois and national transformations, the formation of new empires, the active development of trade relations, a new type of hero appears in world literature - a person who strives by all means to achieve well-being in life, to have financial independence, authority in society, the realization of his plans them goals.
